March 2015
Working with MFA Design students and faculty in the Columbus Department, we conceived and built a free-standing structure for displaying two and three-dimensional, historic examples of theatre art, including models, costume pieces, renderings, posters, props, and video elements. Once the designs were finished, I built the walls out of tube steel, plywood, and hand-made brackets in our shop on the Lima campus. I transported the pieces to Columbus where they were painted. Before the USITT conference, we transported our walls and the art pieces from Columbus to Cincinnati and loaded-in at the convention center with student help. We worked with the curator, Beth Kattelman, to place and hang everything correctly on site and split the duties of watching the materials and answering questions while Expo attendees viewed the work.
